How We Work

The Georgie Badiel Foundation has signed a partnership with the department of Tanghin Dassouri, where there are 59 villages. We locate the villages, schools, and health clinics where access to clean water is crucial. Then, we run a campaign of awareness to educate the people about sanitation, hygiene and maintenance for their wells. As a community, we elect 2 women who will be in charge of the maintenance of the wells.

Once the awareness campaign has been completed, we progress to finishing the water research on the site of the well, then to the drilling of the borehole, then to the analysis of the water, then to creating the support structure of the well.

This process can take us up to 3 to 6 months.

Once the well is complete, the GBF team meets with the 2 women chosen by the community to instruct them on how to restore and maintain their wells. We teach them basic engineering. Learn more about our women’s empowerment program by clicking here….

We empower women so that they can ensure the proper functioning of their community’s wells. In Burkina Faso alone, there are over 9,775 broken wells. GBF wants to ensure our well donors that their wells will function and will be properly taken care of and maintained by the communities relying on their water. Through this local maintenance, we maximize each dollar we receive.

We continue the maintenance of the wells until the community sufficiently possesses the knowledge and adequate resources to take care of the wells without our support.

Once our water wells are complete, GBF will share with you, photos and videos of the completed project.
